SemantiNote is a notebook with an AI that understands the meaning of what you write — and it does all of it on your own computer, where your notes stay yours.
The first half comes from Ancient Greek. Sēmantikós means “having meaning” or “significant.” It grew out of sêma, “a sign,” the idea that marks and words point to something beyond themselves. It’s the same root that gives English the word semantic: to do with meaning.
Put simply, a SemantiNote is a meaning-based note: a note your AI understands by what it’s about, not just by the letters in it.
Most apps search by matching letters. If you don’t remember the exact words you used, you don’t find the note. SemantiNote looks at the underlying concept. Each note is turned into a kind of fingerprint of its meaning, so notes about the same idea sit close together even when they share no words at all.
Because your notes carry meaning the AI can understand, you can also ask them questions (“what did we decide about the launch date?”), get summaries of long meetings and PDFs, and turn rough notes into clean ones.
Notes are some of the most personal things people write: journals, health notes, client meetings, ideas, passwords. Most AI tools work by uploading that writing to a company’s servers, where it can be stored, read and used to train the next model.
We wanted the power of modern AI without that trade. So SemantiNote runs open-source large language models, including Qwen for chat and Nomic Embed for search by meaning, fully on your own computer. The AI comes to your notes. Your notes never go to the AI company.
The AI runs locally on your Mac or PC. Your notes aren’t sent to us or to anyone else.
No big company trains its models on your writing, because your writing never reaches one.
After a one-time model download during setup, the AI works without the internet.
No account and no cloud lock-in. Notes are ordinary files on your drive that you can back up, move or open anywhere.
We believe your thoughts should stay yours. SemantiNote gives you the help of AI while keeping your privacy.
